Dear colleagues,
July is already upon us and although that fact is a little unsettling (where has the time gone?) it is an exciting and busy time for ACGR. Our events program is in full swing and we recently commenced a public communications campaign profiling the impact and value of graduate research. All this in addition to our usual sector wide consultation and advocacy activities.
Firstly, a brief update on our events program. It was great to see those in attendance for yesterday’s webinar on Universities Australia’s Academic Integrity Best Practice Principles, led by Professor David Sadler.
We have made some minor tweaks to the webinar schedule for the remainder of the year. We also draw your attention to the 2022 Graduate Research Leadership Program. The dates and venue for this year’s second ACGR National Meeting are also confirmed (November 14 and 15 in Canberra). We look forward to welcoming colleagues to these highly useful forums.
Now on to our communications activities, if you follow the ACGR Impact Blog or our social media accounts (on Twitter or Linkedin) you would have likely seen the first pieces of our six week campaign profiling the impact of graduate research. We’re sharing provocations, impact profiles and interviews that explore and highlight the value graduate research and our researchers bring to their fields of study, to the economy and to the broader community. Recent pieces include:
- UQ’s PhD candidate Jiarui Sun’s research on superworms with an appetite for plastic
- Charles Sturt PhD candidate Linda Wirf’s work increasing the influence, visibility and voice of women in Australian agriculture
- USyd’s Dr Rebecca McLaughlan on the architecture of palliative care, in which she discusses the process of transitioning from PhD to DECRA
- Curtin University PhD candidate Romana-Rea Begicevic discussing the context she sees facing current graduate researchers
We encourage you to read and engage (share, like or comment) with these pieces – prompting discussion is one of the aims. We’re also interested in hearing suggestions for future profiles or content (please email Rees Quilford our Digital Communications and Member Engagement Coordinator).
Best regards,
Imelda Whelehan, ACGR President
